"Nasumpat", The Beautiful One

A swarm of children awaited my arrival in a remote Maasai community near Lake Natron, Tanzania. During my visit, one baby girl in particular seemed to be as enamoured with my presence as I was with hers. She was the first one to work up enough courage to walk up and gently pinch my skin and hair, as if inspecting a strange, pale ape. As the rest of them moved in, they all bowed their little heads, sweetly waiting for me to place a palm on their foreheads as a sign of my affections and approval.
